Aer Lingus announces 5% passenger decrease in November
Aer Lingus have announced that passenger numbers on both short and long haul flights fell during the month of November. The overall percentage decrease was by 5% to 728,000 during November 2013 compared to the same period last year.
Short haul passenger numbers during November were down 4.7% from the same this time last year to 647,000 and long haul flight passengers were at 81,000 which was a decrease of 6.9%. These figures will not worry the airline too much as they had predicted a drop in passengers towards the end of 2013 in their third quarter interim management statement, released last month.
In the statement, management had said “We do not expect any improvement in the short haul environment for the rest of 2013 which remains characterised by heavily discounted fare offerings across Europe. The 2013 outlook on long haul remains positive with the exception of some weakness expected in November.”
