Iarnród Éireann, Ireland’s premier rail service provider, has embarked on a significant recruitment endeavor aimed at welcoming as many as 100 new train drivers to its ranks. These coveted positions are available across seven different locations throughout the country, offering competitive salaries that can soar up to €63,000. This recruitment drive is a testament to Iarnród Éireann’s unwavering commitment to enhancing its network, modernizing its fleet, and improving customer service. Their ambition is to become the cornerstone of Ireland’s sustainable transport infrastructure.

These new career opportunities beckon in various key locations, including Dublin (specifically the Fairview/Bray and Connolly/Heuston DART services), Athlone, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, and Westport. Each position not only promises an exciting job but also offers a pathway for career advancement within the organization.

Jim Meade, the CEO of Iarnród Éireann, enthusiastically underlines the remarkable prospects these roles bring, “with the planned expansion of services as part of the National Development Plan, it is an exciting time to become part of a growing organization. We are a diverse and inclusive employer and, in particular, we urge more women to apply for driver roles and are encouraged by the increasing interest from women in recent recruitment drives. We don’t just offer jobs; we offer careers and opportunity.”

“I myself joined the railway as an Apprentice, and with a European Railway and CIPD-award winning Talent Management function within Iarnród Éireann, we believe we stand alongside any organization in enabling our people to make the most of their potential.”

Iarnród Éireann is vigorously investing in its rail services, with plans to procure 185 new carriages as part of its investment strategy extending to 2030. Over the next decade, they are planning to acquire an additional 750 carriages. The company’s vision includes tripling the electrification and doubling the capacity of its Greater Dublin Area service. Furthermore, infrastructure developments are in the pipeline to extend the DART service to include the Maynooth/M3 Parkway, Drogheda, and Hazelhatch lines. The investment portfolio is not limited to Dublin; Iarnród Éireann has also committed to enhancing its services in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, and the Intercity network.

With this substantial hiring campaign and a promising future expansion plan, Iarnród Éireann is on track to becoming the bedrock of Ireland’s sustainable transportation network, offering not only jobs but long-lasting careers and growth opportunities for its employees.
