Irish food and drink sector booming according to Bord Bia
Figures released by Bord Bia last month have shown that Irish food and drink exports managed to reach €10 billion in 2013.The monumental figure would surely indicate that Ireland is thriving in this area and is on course towards recovery over the course of the next few years.
The figures show that there was an increase of 9% on 2012 and that over the past four years the increase has reached as high as 40%. The Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said “Significant growth in 2013 has brought export values in the Irish Food and Drink sector to record levels.”
The UK remains the largest export destination for Irish food and drink with 42% of exports worth an estimated €4.1bn reaching that market last year. Exports of food and drink to other EU markets increased by 11% reaching €3.2bn with the key markets of Germany, France and the Netherlands all recording double digit growth in an impressive year all round for the sector.
