Limerick Fire and Rescue Service Set to be Using Drone Technology
Limerick Fire and Rescue Service is hoping to reach agreement with the Irish Aviation Authority in the coming weeks which will allow it to use drone technology when tackling major emergency incidents across Limerick.
A quadcopter that is operated remotely has been acquired and a number of senior officers have received training to use these drones.
The drone, which is controlled from the ground, relays a live video feed when deployed. This will assist firefighters during emergencies.
There is a smartphone app which also allows you to record the footage or take pictures and send them. This can then be used by the on site coordination unit.
Limerick Fire and Rescue Service will be the first in the country to use drone technology.
