Port of Galway set for expansion
The Galway Harbour Company has officially lodged planning application to expand the port. The aim with the new application is to dramatically expand the port at a cost in the region of €126 million. They are hoping that the extension will be able to entice new business as there are not the facilities there at present to deal with many of the larger shipping firms.
Speaking about the decision Eamon Bradshaw the CEO of the Galway Harbour Company said “The expansion of the Port is critically important for the economic future of the entire Western Region. This proposal envisages the creation of a marine facility capable of ensuring that Galway has a harbour infrastructure fit for the twenty first century.”
