Saab pips Boeing to lucrative Brazilian defence forces contract
Saab have fended off stiff competition from Boeing in order to supply 36 new fighter jets to the Brazilian air force. The deal is reported to be worth around €5 billion and the contract is set to run until 2023. The defence minister Celso Amorim said that the Brazilian air force had chosen Saab ahead of Boeing due to the performance and cost of their aircraft along with their willingness to transfer technology.
Also speaking about the lucrative deal was Welber Barral, Brazil’s former trade secretary who stated that “Boeing only didn’t win the deal because of the lack of trust created by the spying incident. Had the decision been last year, Boeing would have won.”
